Is Your Private Practice Actually Working For You?

This is something I see cropping up a lot. Therapists posting on social media about not getting enough client referrals and feeling the squeeze of the current economic climate. I see a lot of counsellors wondering whether private practice is really sustainable, or actually worth it.

We’re running a workshop with Jeanine Connor on *Thriving in Private Practice* on Friday 5th June (catch-up recording also available), so ahead of that workshop let’s jump into the issues.

Surviving is not the same as thriving

Most of us went into this work because we wanted to help people. The business side, the marketing, the fees, the cancellation policies, all of that, can sometimes feel like a necessity that can be hard work or even a source of anxiety.

But the thing is, if your practice isn’t working well as a business, it becomes harder to sustain the quality of care you want to offer your clients. The two are not in opposition. They’re interconnected.

Does any of this sound familiar?

You’d love more clients, or a different kind of client group, but you’re not sure how to make that happen.

You’ve been meaning to raise your fee for a while, but something keeps stopping you.

Your cancellation policy exists but enforcing it feels deeply uncomfortable.

You have a vague sense you should be doing more with marketing or branding, but where do you even start?

You work hard, but you’re not sure you’re working smart.

This is exactly what we’re addressing on 5th June

Our *Thriving in Private Practice* workshop, with Jeanine Connor, is a full day designed to help us get a proper handle on being a therapy practice as a business, but without losing sight of ourselves as therapists.

Jeanine has over 25 years of therapeutic experience and has run her own thriving practice since 2012. She brings warmth, practicality and no small amount of honesty to the day. This isn’t a session about generic business advice. It’s rooted in the specific, sometimes awkward, realities of being both a therapist and a business owner.

On the day you will:
  • Explore your dual identity as a therapist and a business owner.
  • Get clear on your offer and what it’s genuinely worth.
  • Think through your marketing strategy, your USP and whether your branding reflects who you actually are.
  • Reframe your financial and contractual decisions as investments rather than sources of guilt.

Don’t just survive. Thrive.

If the conversations you’re seeing on social media resonate, if you recognise yourself in any of those bullet points above, this workshop is for you. The economic climate isn’t getting easier, and waiting for referrals to pick up on their own is not a strategy.

Come and spend a day properly investing in your practice. You and your clients will be glad you did!

Workshop details

The workshop is online via Zoom on Friday 5th June, 10am to 4pm. Can’t make it on the day? A catch-up recording is available for 28 days afterwards, so you can still benefit at a time that works for you.

Tickets are £99 (discounted, available until 17th May) or £115 (standard).
