...is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy statement explains how we collect and use the personal information you provide to us, what your rights are in relation to your data, and how to contact us if you wish to make a data handling request.
1. Who we are
Brighton Therapy Partnership (BTP) and Therapy Education Online (ThEO) are two brands providing continuing professional development (CPD) training and online resources for counsellors, psychotherapists and allied professionals. Both are operated by the same individual data controller.

2. What personal data we collect and why
We collect and use personal data for the following purposes.
Mailing list subscribers
If you have signed up to receive our newsletter or updates, we hold your name and email address, and in some cases your professional role or training modality, on our email marketing platform, MailerLite. We use this information to send you details of our CPD workshops, resources and occasional offers relevant to your practice.
Lawful basis: consent. You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any of our emails, or by contacting us directly.
Workshop bookings (Brighton Therapy Partnership)
When you book a workshop or training event with Brighton Therapy Partnership, we collect your name and email address in order to process your booking and deliver the training. The lawful basis is performance of a contract.
Payments are made either via PayPal (using a PayPal account or credit/debit card through PayPal's checkout) or by bank transfer directly to us. Where payment is made via PayPal, your transaction is processed securely by PayPal; we do not store your card details. Where payment is made by bank transfer, your payment is processed through our business banking system.
Video purchases (Therapy Education Online)
When you purchase access to a video or resource on Therapy Education Online, we collect your name and email address in order to process your purchase and provide access. The lawful basis is performance of a contract.
Payments are processed securely via PayPal (using a PayPal account or credit/debit card through PayPal's checkout). We do not store your card details.
Trainers and presenters
We work with independent trainers and presenters who deliver workshops on our behalf. We hold their contact details and our correspondence with them in our email system, together with invoices received from them as part of our financial records. Trainer bank details are held securely within our business banking system and are used solely for the purpose of making payment; they are not stored elsewhere.
Lawful basis: contract and legitimate business interests.
Website enquiries
If you contact us via the enquiry form or email address on either of our websites, your name, email address and message are received into our email inbox and used to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to our mailing list on the basis of a website enquiry without your separate consent.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (responding to an enquiry you have initiated).
Website analytics and cookies
The Brighton Therapy Partnership website (brightontherapypartnership.org.uk) uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use the site. This involves the collection of anonymised data about page visits and user behaviour via cookies. The Therapy Education Online website (therapyeducationonline.com) does not use analytics tracking.
Both websites use a cookie consent tool. Analytics cookies are only placed on your device with your prior consent, which you can withdraw or update at any time via the cookie settings on the relevant site.
3. Who we share your data with
We use the following third-party services to operate our business. These act as data processors on our behalf and are required to handle your data securely and in accordance with UK data protection law.
- MailerLite — our email marketing platform, used to manage our mailing list and send CPD newsletters and updates. MailerLite operates under GDPR.
- PayPal — used to process payments for BTP workshop bookings and ThEO video purchases. PayPal's own privacy policy governs data processed through their platform.
- Google Analytics — used on the BTP website only to collect anonymised visitor statistics. Data is processed by Google under their privacy policy.
- Our business banking provider — holds trainer bank details for the purpose of processing payments.
We do not sell, rent or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.
4. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, and in line with our legal obligations.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. Your email address is removed from active sends on unsubscribe.
- Workshop booking and payment records: six years from the date of the booking, in line with HMRC requirements for financial records.
- ThEO video purchase records: six years from the date of purchase, in line with HMRC requirements.
- Trainer records (correspondence and invoices): six years from the end of the working relationship, in line with HMRC requirements.
- Website enquiries: up to two years from the date of first contact, or until the matter is resolved, whichever is sooner.
- Analytics data: retained in accordance with our Google Analytics account settings.
5. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- Right of access: you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: you can ask us to correct any inaccurate information.
- Right to erasure: in certain circumstances, you can ask us to delete your data.
- Right to restriction: you can ask us to restrict how we use your data while a concern is being investigated.
- Right to data portability: where processing is based on consent or contract, you can ask for your data in a portable format.
- Right to object: you can object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: where we process your data on the basis of consent (such as our mailing list), you can withdraw that consent at any time.

6. Data protection complaints
We are committed to handling your personal data with care and transparency. If you have a concern about how we have used or managed your personal data — for example, how we responded to a data access request, whether your information was shared appropriately, or how securely your data is stored — please raise it with us directly in the first instance.
How to raise a data protection concern with us
Please contact us at info@brightontherapypartnership.org.uk, setting out the nature of your concern. We will:
- acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 30 calendar days
- investigate the matter and keep you informed of progress
- let you know the outcome and explain your options if you remain dissatisfied
You do not need to use any special form — a clear email describing your concern is sufficient.
Escalating to the ICO
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your concern, you have the right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator. The ICO will generally expect you to have raised the matter with the organisation directly before they become involved.
