*Healing Traumatic Memory: Essential Skills*

Event Description:

In this one-day workshop we will focus on working with the enduring impacts of trauma and traumatic attachment through a healing-centred, rather than narrative-centred, approach. We will take an in-depth exploration of interoception and mindfulness-based clinical interventions, drawing on principles adapted from Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

We will look at the shifts in a client’s relationship to traumatic memory, and will examine strategies for down-regulating autonomic activation and processing shock states through mindful awareness, embodied practice, and interoceptive tracking. These methods support integrating dysregulated experience and facilitate the transformation of core limiting beliefs.

This training will combine current neuroscience, contemplative practice, and somatic wisdom, and has been designed to be both engaging and experiential. Whether you are an experienced trauma therapist or new to this field, you will leave equipped with clinically applicable tools to help clients foster safety, deepen self-attunement, and restore a sense of coherence and wholeness.

Learning Objectives

• Identify and describe the lasting effects of traumatic shock and activation on the nervous system through the lens of contemporary neuroscience and somatic psychology
• Demonstrate interoception and mindfulness-based techniques adapted from Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems Therapy to support trauma healing
• Apply embodied practices to help clients down-regulate activation and shift their relationship with traumatic memory without requiring detailed narrative recounting

Trainer:

Tracy Jarvis, MSc, is a renowned psychotherapist, trainer, and consultant with over 20 years clinical experience, specialising in neuroscience and trauma. She is part of Pat Ogden’s Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute training team, based in Colorado, USA Tracy is co-developer of the Psychology and Trauma MSc at University College London, and Founder and former Managing Director of PESI UK (previously Psychotherapy Excellence), a not-for-profit organisation and the largest clinical content provider in the UK and Europe.
