Summary: An introduction to the psychotherapeutic approach that explores how we can best support clients across the spectrum of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity.
*Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) Therapy: An Introduction*
Event Description:
This comprehensive six-hour online workshop introduces qualified counsellors to Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) Therapy. This emerging psychotherapeutic approach builds on affirmative traditions to support clients across the spectrum of gender, sexual, and relationship diversity.
GSRD Therapy represents a significant evolution beyond traditional LGBT+ frameworks, encompassing a broader understanding of diversity that includes individuals engaged in BDSM/kink practices, those identifying across the gender spectrum, people in consensual non-monogamous relationships, and those on the asexual spectrum. The approach is rooted in social justice principles and challenges heteronormativity, cisnormativity, and mononormativity while addressing the unique mental health needs of marginalised populations.
Participants will gain essential knowledge of contemporary sexological perspectives, develop cultural humility and competence, and learn to apply trauma-informed care within an affirmative therapeutic framework. Through experiential exercises, case study analysis, and reflective practice, attendees will enhance their ability to provide inclusive, effective therapy for GSRD clients while examining their values, attitudes, and potential biases.
Learning Objectives:
– Understand core GSRD terminology and the diversity of identities and relationships
– Apply the seven core principles of GSRD therapy in clinical practice
– Develop cultural humility and recognise the impact of minority stress on client wellbeing
– Practice affirmative therapeutic responses through realistic case scenarios
– Engage in self-reflection regarding personal values and their impact on therapeutic relationships
Trainer:
