The Therapist’s Corner: December Inspiration

The internet can be both a treasure trove of insightful content and entertainment, and also a source of overwhelming information. That’s why the BTP team has come together to curate a Therapist‘s Corner post for you.

In Therapist‘s Corner we’ll share some of the best TV shows, books, podcasts, blogs, resources, quotes and memes (both classic and new) that we’ve come across to support you in your therapyand counselling work. Our goal is to educate, inform and occasionally bring a smile to your face, and make your online experience a little more enjoyable.

Happy reading!

TV/Cinema

Ted Lasso

Available on AppleTV, this award-winning series is funny and inspiring. More for the 30+ crowd, you can love this show even if you’re not a sports fan. The therapist, a sports psychologist, does not appear until Season 2.

Ted Lasso is a powerful reminder that vulnerability and emotional openness are not signs of weakness, but rather important aspects of mental health for both men and women. The show has sparked important conversations about masculinity and mental health, and its impact is likely to be felt for years to come.

Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is a 1997 American drama film directed by Gus Van Santand written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. It stars Robin Williams, Damon, Affleck, Stellan Skarsgård and Minnie Driver.

Will Hunting struggles with PTSD, borderline personality disorder, mood disorder, and inferiority complex. This movie offers a nuanced portrayal of psychological trauma and the healing power of therapy. Through the lens of psychology, the film provides valuable insights into the complexities of the human mind and the importance of empathetic and supportive relationships in fostering psychological well-being.

“Emotional Inheritance: A Therapist, Her Patients, and the Legacy of Trauma by Dr. Galit Atlas

In this transformative book, Galit Atlas entwines the stories of her patients, her own stories, and decades of research to help us identify the links between our life struggles and the “emotional inheritance” we all carry.
